Flag Poppies!

If anyone uses Facebook I'm sure if you belong to any of the Alarm related groups and pages you will have come across people using the classic poppy logo as an avatar or flying the flag so to speak by having a fantastic flag poppy. Well I've often wondered where they came from and also where to find them...and now I know!

"The last time I was able to make it to the Gathering was 2011 and it all started when I made one flag poppy and posted it on Lily's Facebook or something. It was connected to working on 'banners' for the Gathering. The a few others asked for their country. At one point I was going to try and do EVERY country in the world, but I just never finished."

Archive reveal "Axiom"

Archive have today revealed their new project "Axiom" launching a pledge music campaign with various purchase options.

"Axiom" is described as a 40 minute short film with accompanying album which will be released on CD, Vinyl, Download and DVD in Spring of next year. There will also be a one off performance at the Roundhouse in London on the 29th May.

Mike leaves Big Country

After a day or so of rumours it's officially been announced that Mike will no longer be involved with Big Country after the conclusion of the "Lands End..." tour last night in Grimsby. Anyone who saw the band with Mike will know that he bought his passion and gave his all in helping the Big Country legacy continue on stage and off with the brilliant studio album "The Journey".

In The Poppy Fields will stop to actively report on Big Country matters unless they purport to Mike as we are an Alarm site and there are specific BC sites out there.

Next year will be a busy one as always, kicking off with The Gathering before the 30th anniversary "Declaration" solo tour and rumours of new Alarm material too!

From The Jam - The Corn Exchange, Hertford 8th November 2013 (All Mod Cons)

Last night saw From The Jam play to an enthusiastic sold out crowd at Hertfords Corn Exchange. The band played the entire "All Mod Cons" classic album as well as tracks from other Jam and Bruce Foxton albums and a tribute to the one and only Wilco Johnson. Smiley was in his element and clearly having an absolute blast. Great set list, great night, great band, great drummer!

Kirk Brandon plays solo and Theatre Of Hate December dates.

Kirk Brandon will be playing 2 solo acoustic gigs towards the end of this month firstly at Islingtons O2 Academy as guest to The March Violets and then at the New Roscoe in Leeds on the 24th as headliner.

Theatre Of Hate will then go on a short tour in December (minus Craig who is on Mission/Blood Brothers duties). The dates are :

Big Country to play Sunshine Music Festival

Big Country are advertised on the bill of the Sunshine Music Festival that will be held across the August Bank Holiday weekend next year in Upton upon Severn in Worcestershire. The band will play the main stage on a non specified day as of yet sharing the bill with an eclectic mix of names including Secret Affair, The Sweet, Marty Wilde and Showaddywaddy!
